I suggest you ...

on demand encoding from archive

Instead of pre-processing the media files that i want to share - it should be possible to store the files in their source format (WMV, AVI, MKV) and from the IIS pull the file that the user wants to watch...

When CUDA (GPU Accellerated Encoding) is supported - it would be much easier to simply have an archive of media files, that through IIS would be served to viewers...

Being able to SmoothStream from an archive would make a very attractive media server !!

I guess the GPU Encoder should only Encode in the requested resolution...

and since CUDA encoder are able to output multiple resolutions concurrently - a server with 1 or 2 GPU's would be able to serve 3-4 smooth streams ...
